Street Lights

Beneath the dust and the dirt
and the veil the streetlights cast
Below the skyscraper windows
The road before us passed.
Amid the lights and the noise
and all of the half smiles
Around the sidewalks we stood
the road ahead for miles
Above the neon signs
and the city's everglow
Beyond the city limits
The stars put on their show
Although the road is rough
and not every street lamp is lit
It's live's our darkest places
that the stars shine through it
